01Purpose of this policy
Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) procedures exist to confirm that customers are who they say they are, and to prevent the platform being used for money laundering, terrorist financing, fraud, sanctions evasion, or other financial crime.
These checks protect other investors, protect the Company, and protect you — most account takeovers and payment frauds are caught at exactly these control points.
02When we carry out checks
Verification is required before we release funds to you, and may be requested at any of these points:
- when you open an account and before your first withdrawal;
- when you make a deposit, or a series of deposits, that requires additional review;
- when you change important account details such as your name, email address, or payment destination;
- where activity on the account does not match what we would expect; and
- periodically, to keep the information we hold accurate and up to date.
03What we ask for
The exact requirements depend on your circumstances, but typically we ask for:
- Proof of identity: a current government-issued photo identity document, such as a passport, national identity card, or driving licence.
- Proof of address: a recent utility bill, bank statement, or official letter showing your name and address.
- Proof of payment ownership: evidence that the payment account you use belongs to you.
- Source of funds: an explanation, and where necessary supporting evidence, of where the money you are investing came from.
Documents must be current, complete, legible, and unedited. We may ask for a clearer copy or an additional document if what you send cannot be verified.
04How your submission progresses
Every verification submission moves through clearly defined states, and you can see the current state in your dashboard:
- Pending — your documents have been received and are queued for review.
- Under review — a member of the compliance team is checking your submission.
- Information requested — something is missing or unclear, and we have told you what is needed.
- Approved — verification is complete and the account can proceed.
- Rejected — the submission could not be accepted; we will tell you why where we are permitted to.
You will be notified when the state of your submission changes.
05Source of funds
We may ask you to explain and evidence where your investment money came from — for example salary, business income, the sale of an asset, savings, or an inheritance.
This is a standard requirement for firms handling investor money, and asking does not imply any suspicion about you. We may delay, decline, or return funds where we cannot establish their origin to a reasonable standard.
06Payments must be in your own name
We accept deposits only from an account held in the name of the registered account holder, and we return withdrawals to an account in that same name.
- We do not accept payments from third parties on your behalf.
- We do not send withdrawals to someone else's account.
- We do not accept or return funds through a member of staff personally.
If anyone asks you to route money in any of these ways, it is not a legitimate request from us. Please report it immediately.
07Screening and ongoing monitoring
As part of our checks we may screen customers against applicable sanctions lists, and identify politically exposed persons and their close associates, who require additional review before an account is approved.
Account and transaction activity is monitored on an ongoing basis for patterns that are inconsistent with the customer we have on record. Enhanced due diligence may be applied where the risk presented is higher.
08Accounts we cannot accept
We will not open or continue an account where:
- identity cannot be verified to a satisfactory standard;
- documents appear to be false, altered, or belong to someone else;
- the customer is subject to applicable sanctions;
- the customer is below the minimum age of 18;
- the source of funds cannot be satisfactorily established; or
- we are prohibited from providing the service under applicable law.
09Actions we may take
Where our procedures require it, we may delay or decline a transaction, request further information, suspend or restrict an account, return funds to their original source, close an account, or make a report to the relevant authority.
In some circumstances the law prevents us from telling you that a report has been made or explaining the reason for a decision. Where we are permitted to explain, we will.
10Record keeping and your data
Verification documents and records of the checks performed are retained for the period required by applicable law, and afterwards deleted.
Identity documents are stored outside the public web directory, cannot be opened by a direct link, and are accessible only to authorised staff. How we handle this information is described in our privacy policy, and the controls behind it on our security page.
11Your responsibilities
You are responsible for providing accurate, current, and complete information, for telling us when your details change, and for confirming that the funds you invest are lawfully yours.
Providing false information, or using the platform to handle the proceeds of crime, is a criminal offence and will result in the account being closed and reported.
12Questions and complaints
If you are unsure what is being asked of you, or you believe a verification decision was wrong, please contact us. Sending a clearer document usually resolves the most common delays.
